FM Daniel Lam Wins 1st Hang Hau, Sai Kung & Clear Water Bay Rapid Open

As the inauguration event of the (re)opening of our Caissa chess activities in the Hang Hau Space Centre, the 1st Open Rapid tournament was held for chess players of all ages and levels. In one single group youth players and adults would face off if they had equal scores in a any given round. Yet the youth players played for prizes in their own age category.
At the top of the group the rating level was very high for Hong Kong standards, with players up to around 2250 FIDE rating. In the youth categories we had various current and ex National Champions. All across the board, including also some new faces who were rusty but with potential, the event had some great chess moments.
FM Daniel Lam claimed the title ahead of Tushar Anand and David Rivas, our new Caissa coach - welcome David! Noteworthy was 11-year old Miguel Angel Garceran Wang who with 5 points ended 3rd overall and Champion U14. Seth Peramunetilleke became Champion U12 and that is exactly what Mahir Uppal did in U8.
Congrats all Champions, other prize winners and all participants for having made this a smooth tournament with great sportmanship.
