IM Matthew Tan Wins Caissa 7th Blitz Open
Because of Mangkhut, the most devastating typhoon in recent times hitting Hong Kong on 16 September, the 7th Blitz Open was rescheduled to 20 September. With 25 registered players the group was not the largest. However in each age category the top players were mostly present. In the Open we also had Caissa's IM Matthew Tan and CM David Rivas playing alongside strong players like FM Peter Yu and notoriously well performing players like Andrew Leung and Tushar Anand. There was enough quality for the day!
The tournament was, as always, well led by IA Alberto Muniz. After 9 rounds, Matthew with 9 points was crowned Champion, followed by David Rivas with 7 points and and Andrew with 6 points beating Tushar on tie-break.
The U16 prize winners were Wing Ki (5.5), Miguel (5) and Kevin (3). U12 top 3 were Joseph (5), Wilfred (4) and Noah (4). Finally, the U8 category was won by Samuel (5), followed by Gabriel (4) and Kin Tsun (4).
