MAGiC Leg 1 U11 Champion Ziwen and U13 Champion Aldrik
After the first leg of MAGiC U7 and U9 last week, Sunday September 15 it was the turn for U11 and U13 players to get going!
Like last week, there were several players who had no tournament experience at all and everyone who has ever played a chess tournament knows how nerve wrecking it can be to get behind the board. "My legs are thrilling", said one of the players. Rest assured, that will all go away ... to some degree ... Playing chess can be nerve wrecking and we hope parents are enough aware of this!
The U11 and U13 played with time increment of 5 seconds for each move added to the 15 minutes at start. Rapid chess format.
Yanyu (white) vs Charles in Round 3
In the U11 section after 5 rounds Lorenzo, who played his first tournament ever, and Charles did a great job and both had accumulated 3.5 points. Third place went to Charles and 4th to Lorenzo on tie-break. The first and second place was also a tie-break between Elyse and Ziwen, both with 4.5 points. The game between them had ended in a draw. Finally, the 1st Place went to Ziwen and 2nd Place to Elyse. Well done both and great also to see a girl in the top! Another girl, Yanyu, who played her first ever tournament as well, and started with 2 convincing wins in a row, got Best Girl Prize.
The U13 section had a small players base, but some great games appeared throughout the afternoon. Unfortunately, there was an odd number of players, and most players got a BYE. Marvin started with one and not warmed up perhaps slipped in round 2 against Aldrik, who played an excellent tournament and only conceded half a point against David, who with 3 points claimed 3rd Place. Marvin had recovered after his loss in round 2 to convincingly win the rest of his games and get 2nd Place. Harriet took home Best Girl prize.
