Start of Season Blitz: Brandon Again!

Our second Season Opening event, a 9 rounds Blitz was held on 1 September, a week after the SOS Rapid, overwhelmingly won by Caissa CTP student Brandon Fang.

The event attracted several strong players, from within the Caissa family as well as external chess friends. With 6.5 points Ryan, a former long time Caissa student, claimed 3rd place. Well done - with a TPR (Tournament Performance Rating) of 1715 he gained 86 FIDE rating points as per Swiss-Manager: the final rating results will be determined by FIDE, but it would be in that neighborhood.

Our long time external chess friend from Active Kids TCA, Edgar, did excellent as well scoring 8 points, enough for 2nd Prize and with TPR of 1917 achieved a gain of around 24 FIDE points.

Star of the show, again, was Bandon. Scoring 9 wins and having played against all players in the top 7 he achieved an impressive TPR of 2375 which would add well over 60 rating points to his already impressive blitz rating of 1909. Way to go Brandon!

Best Age Prizes were given to Avery (U10) who scored 5 points on 10th place, Aldrik (U12) with 4.5 points on 11th place and another Caissa CTP student Mikail (U16) with 5,5 points on 4th place.

Because many registrations came in late we only had prizes ready for the Top 3, but as we got over 20 participants in the last day the 4th, 5th and 6th Prize trophies had immediately been ordered and will be given to Hong Shun (4th with 5 points), Chun Hin (5th with 5 points) and Caissa student Ethan 6th with also 5 points. Apart from this misstep on our side, which will not happen again, the tournament went smooth and in good spirit.
